Current roles
Legal Associate, Commercial Disputes
We focus on equipping our Legal Associates with strong legal skills and practical case management expertise, which are essential for legal practice. We believe in offering plain and practical advice to our clients, and we train our Legal Associates to do just that.
At Helmsman, the team works closely together in a friendly and approachable environment. Our lawyers work in shared spaces where ideas are discussed freely and assistance is close at hand. We train and nurture our team with a view to a sustainable and rewarding career, and we recognise the importance of work-life balance and harmony.
As a Legal Associate, you will gain exposure to a wide array of high-quality work handled by leading lawyers in their respective fields. As a firm, we celebrate the varied interests of our lawyers outside of work and encourage our lawyers to pursue them.
The practice
Our Commercial Disputes practice provides plain, practical advice on all aspects of dispute management, including advice on potential claims, liabilities, options and next steps, and dispute avoidance. We act for clients in litigation before the domestic courts and the international commercial courts, and in arbitration, mediation, and neutral evaluation or determination.
Our matters include claims in respect of complex financial products, banking and investment disputes, joint venture and shareholder disputes, restructuring and insolvency, corporate governance disputes, breach of trust, contractual disputes, fraud and white-collar crime, misrepresentation and property disputes. A significant proportion of our work is cross-border, and our lawyers work on matters with both our Singapore and Hong Kong offices.
Our lawyers also support the Employment practice on both contentious and non-contentious matters.
What we look for
We are looking for a Legal Associate for our Commercial Disputes practice with a strong academic background and sound contentious experience. Employment law experience would be a plus.
The candidate should be qualified to practise in Singapore, with a PQE of 2 to 5 years, and should have experience in civil litigation and/or commercial arbitration, including the drafting of pleadings, affidavits and written submissions, and the conduct of interlocutory applications.
The candidate should be capable of running workstreams with guidance from senior members of the team, of engaging directly with clients, and of exercising sound judgement under time pressure. We place a high value on initiative and clear thinking.
The candidate should be proficient in English; any additional language skills would be an advantage. The Legal Associate will be based in Singapore and will work on matters with our Singapore and Hong Kong offices.
Salary
We offer compensation comparable to leading law firms in the region, based on your level of experience.
