Counsel Daniel Ho speaks on emerging climate law trends at Law Society of Singapore webinar
Counsel, Daniel Ho joined a panel of distinguished speakers at a webinar jointly organised by the International Law Association (Singapore Branch) and the Public and International Law Committee of the Law Society of Singapore. The session explored how recent international climate law developments – including the advisory opinions of the International Court of Justice and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea – are reshaping states’ obligations and policy responses amid accelerating climate impacts.
Daniel’s discussion focused on the implications for Singapore and the domestic market, covering emerging regulatory and legal trends, the prospects for climate-related litigation, and the evolving domestic legal framework. In particular, he highlighted how the Coastal Protection Act will affect landowners and long-term lessees of coastal sites (which include private business), and discussed commercial implications arising from the legislation. Lending a practical perspective, he touched on topics such as the potential for green financing and issues of liability for latent defects in coastal protection measures upon change in land ownership.
