Basil Lee co-heads our Intellectual Property and Technology, Media & Telecommunications Practice Group.
Basil advises clients on intellectual property strategy and various technology, media and telecommunications regulations, including data protection, consumer protection, and cybersecurity. He also acts for clients in intellectual property and commercial disputes at all levels of the Singapore courts and in arbitrations. He has acted in several landmark cases and was also involved in the successful discharge of an injunction, which facilitated the KAWS: HOLIDAY art exhibition at The Float @ Marina Bay.
Prior to joining Helmsman, Basil was a partner in a leading intellectual property practice at one of the largest law firms in Singapore.
Basil read law at the National University of Singapore where he was awarded the APAA Patent Law Prize as the top student in intellectual property law. He also represented the university at the Monroe E Price Media Law Moot Court Competition, the world’s largest and most prestigious moot court competition for freedom of expression and media and information technology. He writes regularly on intellectual property law issues and is a published contributor to the trade marks and passing off chapter in the 2018, 2020 and 2024 re-issues of Halsbury’s Laws of Singapore: Volume 13:3 - Intellectual Property.
Basil is admitted to the Singapore Bar and is fluent in English and Chinese Mandarin.
