Darryl Ho

Darryl specialises in commercial disputes, representing clients in a broad range of matters including contract, commodities, employment, insolvency and insurance disputes.

Darryl read law at the National University of Singapore, graduating with First Class Honours and placing on the Dean’s List for all academic years. He completed his LLM at King’s College London, where he graduated with highest honours and was the top student in Public International Law and International Criminal Law. He was also an active mooter, securing second place at the International Commercial Arbitration Moot 2020.

Prior to joining Helmsman, Darryl was a Justices’ Law Clerk at the Supreme Court of Singapore, where he worked on a wide range of matters, including arbitration, contract, trusts, tort and criminal cases.

Darryl is an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore. He is fluent in English and Mandarin and possesses conversational proficiency in Malay.

Contract

Acted for a multinational medical technology company on a dispute stemming from an agreement for the distribution of avant-garde cardiology diagnostic machines in India.

Acted for a Luxembourg trade finance fund in a multi-million dollar trade insurance policy claim against a global insurance and reinsurance company.

Advised a Singapore interior design company on its potential liability in relation to challenges encountered in carrying out a high-end design project in an exclusive Parisian district.

Commodities

Advised a multinational commodities trading company on how coal purchase and sale contracts would be affected by urgent and new Indonesian government regulations setting a price floor for the sale of Indonesian coal.

Acted for a Singapore commodities trading company in an arbitration conducted under SIAC rules regarding the financing of coal shipments originating from Indonesia.

Employment

Advised the Singaporean subsidiary of a large Hong Kong petrochemical trading company on employment issues stemming from the parent company’s potential insolvency.

Advised a multinational energy trading company on employment issues stemming from the resignation of employees, including the protection of confidential information and trade connections.

Insolvency

Acted for a large group of borrowers resisting statutory demands issued by a leading global Non-Bank Financial Institution. The demands were made pursuant to alleged debts in excess of USD 130 million owed under a complex web of facility and security agreements.
