Samuel specialises in corporate and commercial transactions and mergers and acquisitions, advising clients on a broad range of matters including share and asset acquisitions, joint ventures and general corporate matters.

Prior to joining Helmsman, Samuel was a Justices’ Law Clerk at the Supreme Court of Singapore where he handled a variety of complex civil, commercial and criminal matters.

Samuel read law at Singapore Management University, graduating as valedictorian. He was the recipient of many academic awards, including the Lai Kew Chai Prize for the Top First Year Law Student, the Allen & Gledhill Prize for the Top Student in Law of Business Organisations, and the Drew & Napier Prize for the Top Student in Law of Evidence.

Samuel is an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore. He is proficient in English and Mandarin.

Recent Transactions

Acted as Singapore counsel on cross-border financing transactions for iron ore trades, including loan facilities of up to USD 250 million.

Acting as Singapore counsel for a fund on its acquisition of a company.

Acting for buyers in a dispute over the existence of a commodity sales contract.

Acted for charterers in resisting a winding-up application by shipowners, notwithstanding the parties’ agreement to refer disputes under the charterparty to arbitration.
