Yong Zhang

Yong is a dispute resolution lawyer. He focuses on cross-border disputes, with a particular emphasis on international arbitration. He has experience assisting clients in international arbitration cases under rules such as SIAC, UNCITRAL, and SCMA as well as in litigations before the courts in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Before joining Helmsman, Yong spent more than five years as a Senior Associate at a leading law firm in China. During his time in China, he represented clients before courts at all levels, including the Supreme People’s Court of China. Yong also has extensive advocacy experience in domestic arbitrations in China.
Yong also served as an extern law clerk to Justice Nancy M. Bannon of New York State Supreme Court. While studying at Columbia Law School, he served as a research assistant to Professor George A. Bermann and Professor Kabir Duggal, both of whom are leading figures in international arbitration, and as the LL.M. Co-Chair of the Columbia International Arbitration Association (CIAA).
He is a foreign-qualified lawyer registered in Singapore. He is qualified to practice in England & Wales, China and the United States (California). He is pending admission to the United States (New York) bar. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in the United Kingdom.
He holds an LL.B from Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, and his LL.M from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and a second LL.M from Columbia University.
Yong is a Mandarin native speaker, and fluent in English.
