Helmsman welcomes Samuel Tay to its Corporate and M&A practice
Helmsman is pleased to welcome Samuel Tay to the firm as an Associate in its Corporate, Mergers & Acquisitions practice. Samuel is a former Justices' Law Clerk at the Supreme Court of Singapore and the valedictorian of his cohort at Singapore Management University.
Samuel's practice focuses on corporate and commercial transactions and mergers and acquisitions, advising clients on share and asset acquisitions, joint ventures and general corporate matters. He has acted as Singapore counsel on cross-border financing transactions for iron ore trades, including loan facilities of up to USD 250 million, and as Singapore counsel for a fund on its acquisition of a company. He has also acted for buyers in a dispute over the existence of a commodity sales contract, and for charterers in resisting a winding-up application by shipowners notwithstanding the parties' agreement to refer disputes under the charterparty to arbitration.
Samuel read law at Singapore Management University. His academic awards include the Lai Kew Chai Prize for the Top First Year Law Student, the Allen & Gledhill Prize for the Top Student in Law of Business Organisations, and the Drew & Napier Prize for the Top Student in Law of Evidence. He is an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore and is proficient in English and Mandarin.
