Helmsman's Iris Ng moderates Law Society panel on the professional risks of AI in legal practice

Iris Ng, Counsel in our Shipping and Commodities Practice, moderated the second of two panel discussions at the Law Society of Singapore's event, AI in Legal Practice: Opportunities, Risks and Professional Responsibilities, held at the Law Society Members' Lounge.

The programme examined the opportunities and challenges associated with the adoption of AI in legal practice. Her panel, “The Break”, focused on the legal, technical and professional risks and challenges and how to mitigate these, with actionable steps you can take today.

The panel examined confidentiality and privilege, the reliability of outputs, professional liability, and the governance frameworks that should be considered before AI tools are deployed in practice. Iris directed the discussion to the questions practitioners confront in practice: What prompt injection means, whether a claim of “zero hallucinations” withstands scrutiny, and how to structure systems and processes to allocate responsibility before deployment.

Iris’s participation in the event reflects our firm's continuing commitment to the responsible adoption of legal technology, and to the professional standards that need to be upheld alongside deployment.
